Question 1

What are the best methods for cleaning mould in Sydney's humid climate?

Accepted Answer

In Sydney’s humid climate, effective mould cleaning involves using white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide to kill mould spores, followed by drying and ventilating the area. Dehumidifiers and proper airflow are essential to prevent regrowth.

Question 2

Can I use bleach to clean mould in my Sydney home?

Accepted Answer

While bleach can remove surface mould, it’s not recommended for porous materials like wood or drywall, as it doesn’t penetrate deeply enough to kill the mould roots. Vinegar or professional treatments are better suited for long-term results.

Question 3

How do I prevent mould from growing back after cleaning?

Accepted Answer

To prevent mould from returning, ensure proper ventilation, reduce indoor humidity levels, fix any leaks, and clean condensation-prone areas regularly. Using a dehumidifier can be particularly helpful in Sydney’s coastal areas.

Question 4

Is professional mould cleaning necessary for rental properties in Sydney?

Accepted Answer

Yes, professional mould cleaning is recommended for rental properties in Sydney, especially for large infestations. This ensures the mould is thoroughly removed and prevents legal issues related to tenant health concerns.

Question 5

What is the cost of professional mould cleaning in Sydney?

Accepted Answer

The cost of professional mould cleaning in Sydney depends on the size of the affected area and the severity of the mould problem. Prices can range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars, depending on the scope of work.

Question 7

How quickly can someone come out in Sydney?

Accepted Answer

Enquiries received during business hours are usually answered the same day, and inspections are typically booked within a few days. Water damage and flooding are treated as urgent.

Question 8

What causes mould to grow in Australian homes?

Accepted Answer

Mould grows wherever there is moisture. The usual causes are poor ventilation, plumbing or roof leaks, condensation on cold surfaces, rising damp, and water damage that was never dried out properly.

Question 9

How do I know if I have a mould problem?

Accepted Answer

Visible spotting, a persistent musty smell, damp staining, peeling paint, recurring condensation on windows, and allergy-like symptoms that ease when you leave the property are all signs worth investigating.

Question 10

Can I just clean it off myself?

Accepted Answer

A small patch on a hard, non-porous surface caught early can often be cleaned by the occupant. What you cannot do yourself is find and fix the moisture keeping it there, which is why cleaned mould so often returns in the same place.

Question 11

Why does mould keep coming back after cleaning?

Accepted Answer

Because the moisture source is still present. Cleaning removes the growth but not the conditions that produced it, so the same wall is damp again within weeks.

Question 12

Is mould dangerous to my health?

Accepted Answer

It can be. Reactions vary considerably between people, but respiratory irritation, worsened asthma and allergy-type symptoms are common, and infants, the elderly and immunocompromised people are more affected.
